The boy next door review

The boy next door is a Korean web series. It’s based on a manga by the same title, but I haven’t read it so I don’t know how much this series follows it. I honestly don’t remember how I came across it but found it randomly one day. There is only 15 episodes and each episode is around six minutes so you can easily watch this in a day. It’s about two guys that are next door neighbors. One lives in room 301 which is Park Kyutae who is 25. The neighbor lives in room 302 Sung Gijae who is also 25.  Kyutae is more detailed oriented also a game production major who can’t play games.  He also wear glasses. While Gijae has more of a tough exterior and plays video games. They randomly meet when they run into each other in the hall wearing the same shirt.

They often see each other when smoking outside and Kyutae mostly tries to create conversation while Gijae is more hesitant in the situation. They often talk about going out for drinks but never do until they finally do and it’s awkward. While they’re having drinks, Mina pops up who is friends with both guys. There’s more background on Mina but I don’t want to spoil the series for those who haven’t seen it. The web series is about how Kyutae and Gijae are always caught in certain situations that make them appear as lovers but with that they create a fun bond. One of my favorite scenes is the movie theater. They’re at a special screening of a horror movie that has Joy from Red Velvet. Joy is at the screening to thank fans also to do a contest, where the winner gets a new laptop. The only way to enter the contest is to be a couple. So Kyutae being a fan of Joy wants to enter to be near and of course meet her while Gijae wants to enter for the new laptop. They have to play the pepero game, which is like the pocky game, the goal is to leave as little of the stick as possible while barely planting a kiss on one another. I won’t say what happens next but I love Kyutae’s fangirl ways in the scene. I will say Kyutae is my favorite out of the two because he’s funnier and love how extra he is. Another little thing that is hilarious is each episode ends with them or one of them saying fuck. I wouldn’t call this series BL but it does play with those lines, you almost believe in the first half of the series then towards the end, it’s more about their friendship. Overall the whole series is cute and really funny because of a great storyline and actors also the writing is excellent. So if you’re looking for short funny series, I would recommend this one.
